Here is an image depicting the festive and vibrant Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

The important Hindu holiday of Ganesh Chaturthi, also called Vinayaka Chaturthi, commemorates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the god of knowledge, wealth, and the removal of barriers. Ganesh Chaturthi is observed on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

Date and Muhurat:

Date: August 27, 2025

Madhyahna Ganesha Puja Muhurat: 11:06 AM to 1:40 PM

History and Significance:

Lord Ganesha, who is regarded as the deity of fresh starts and the surmounter of barriers, was born on Ganesh Chaturthi. Originating from a number of legends, the event has been observed since ancient times. According to one of these legends, Goddess Parvati made Ganesha out of sandalwood paste and gave him life. Unaware of this, Lord Shiva decapitated Ganesha after he barred his entrance. Shiva realised his error and changed Ganesha's head to that of an elephant, which stands for power and intelligence. In order to bring people together against British colonial rule, independence leader Lokmanya Tilak popularised the festival in 1893 after it had gained popularity during the Maratha era.

Rituals and Celebrations:

1. Idol Installation: In their homes and public pandals (temporary stages), devotees erect intricately decorated clay idols of Lord Ganesha.

2. Puja and Offerings: Vedic hymns are chanted in conjunction with daily prayers. Sweets like modak, which is thought to be Ganesha's favourite, are offered.

 3. Fasting: As a show of devotion, many devotees practice fasts during the festival season.

4. Cultural Events: To promote harmony and celebration, communities host cultural events such as plays, dances, and musical performances.

 5. Visarjan (Immersion): With processions full of singing and dancing, the celebration comes to a close with the immersion of the Ganesha idols in water bodies, signifying his return to Mount Kailash.

Ganesh Chaturthi is widely celebrated in Hyderabad, as well as throughout India. Public pandals are set up around the city, and the streets come alive with processions and celebrations that represent the city's rich cultural history. The festival has religious significance, but it also serves as a time for family reunions, community cohesion, and the promotion of arts and culture.
