As part of a revamped check-in policy, OYO accommodations has stated that it will no longer provide accommodations to unmarried couples beginning in 2025.
Its implementation will commence in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. OYO Rooms will now need ID cards from guests when checking in at partner hotels and making online bookings.
The corporation has empowered partner hotels to deny bookings made by couples depending on their judgement, in accordance with local social sensibilities. Based on feedback, the policy may be expanded to other cities in India.
"OYO is committed to promoting safe and responsible hospitality practices. While we value individual freedoms and personal liberty, we also understand our responsibility to listen to and collaborate with law enforcement and civil society organisations in the micro markets in which we operate. We will assess this policy and its impact on a regular basis." PTI reported Pawas Sharma, region head of OYO North India.
